It appears that the Green Bay Packers are set up on offense. It may be necessary to make a few tweaks here and there, but the groundwork has been laid for a very successful future. There are pieces in place for the defense to succeed, but to reach the next level, some changes will be needed.
In 2024, the team will have a new defensive coordinator, defensive line coach, and passing game coordinator. Their secondary could now be bolstered by a veteran.
The Green Bay Packers Could Bring In #3 Overall Pick For Defense
Sayre Bedinger of Fansided highlighted how this move could help Green Bay:
I also brought up Okudah’s name in a previous article looking at free agents who could have an interest in specifically playing for Packers DC Jeff Hafley, and I’m going to keep beating this drum until we see what the Packers do.
Okudah was the third overall pick of the 2020 NFL Draft. Injuries have plagued his career so far, which isn’t exactly what the Packers are looking for given their issues with Eric Stokes, but I think the risk is worth the potential reward here. You could probably sign the 24-year-old Okudah to a one-year (prove-it) deal and reap the benefits if he’s able to live up to his lofty NFL Draft status.
You can never have too many corners, and one this talented could be available for a bargain price.
The Green Bay Packers Will Likely Add To Their Secondary This Off-Season
Among Green Bay Packers fans, cornerback is arguably the position most divided on whether or not it is a high-priority position. In the 2024 NFL Draft, receivers, offensive linemen, and cornerbacks are the top three strengths, so there should be some cornerback talent available in the late first round.
Now the question is whether the team is actually in a position to make a move at the position that early in the draft or target one in free agency. Keisean Nixon, Corey Ballentine and Robert Rochell are all restricted free agents. Meaning none are guaranteed to be back in 2024.
Okudah could provide a low risk high reward type of signing for the Packers’ defense. Defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley made it very clear that is going to be putting his players in the best position possible to succeed.
