On Tuesday, the Green Bay Packers sent shockwaves through their fanbase when it was reported that they traded fan-favorite cornerback Rasul Douglas to the Buffalo Bills ahead of the NFL’s trade deadline. Not only was Douglas a fan favorite, but he was also the team’s best cornerback on the field this season, not to mention an outspoken leader in the locker room.
After each game, Packers beat reporters mentioned that young rookie players were always gathered at Douglas’ locker to get feedback and advice. To say it sent a shockwave through their own locker room would be an understatement.
While Carrington Valentine is ready to embrace more playing time, Kenny Clark said the trade “hurt,” and “was a tough pill to swallow.”
Douglas’ fellow starting cornerback, Jaire Alexander, also was not thrilled to see his counterpart traded.
Green Bay Packers Cornerback Jaire Alexander Was “Surprised” by the Rasul Douglas Trade
When speaking to the media on Wednesday, Alexander said the following regarding the Rasul Douglas trade:
Jaire Alexander on the Packers trading Rasul Douglas: “I was pretty surprised, to say the least.”
“I didn’t expect Rasul to be gone. He’s a vet. He’s made a bunch of plays during his time here, but that’s just the NFL.” pic.twitter.com/jHFTbgxfFv

“I was pretty surprised, to the say the least. I was pretty surprised. I actually found out this morning, coming into work. I made sure to text him right away.
“I didn’t expect Rasul to be gone. He’s a vet. He’s made a bunch of plays during his time here, but that’s just the NFL.”
While the Packers may be down Douglas, and despite the players they have already lost for extended periods of time (David Bakhtiari, Eric Stokes), Alexander is not ready to give up on the season.
He told reporters that they have 10 games left and they are going to win them all.
While it may not be exactly as reassuring as when Aaron Rodgers gave his “run the table” interview, it is a good thing that the Packers have players who still believe in the team.
Hopefully Alexander’s attitude rubs off on the rest of the team [and coaching staff] and they bring the energy on both sides of the ball going forward.
