The Green Bay Packers have a knack for finding diamonds in the rough. The Packers have found multiple cornerstone players in the mid to late rounds of the NFL Draft. They even have found some un-drafted free agents who have made a significant impact on the franchise.
Today, the Packers signed someone who they’re hoping will make a similar impact on the team.
The Green Bay Packers Sign 4.5 Second 40-Yard Dash Cornerback
According to his Instagram account, the Green Bay Packers have signed cornerback Gemon Green. Last year, Green spent time with the New York Giants as an undrafted free agent from the 2023 draft class.
During his four seasons at Michigan, Green played 42 games (24 starts). One interception and 15 pass breakups were among his accomplishments. Honorable mention All-Big Ten honors were awarded to him in 2022, his final year.
What Can Germon Green Bring To The Packers?
According to Zach Kruse of the Packers Wire:
Green played 69 defensive snaps and 14 special teams snaps over three preseason games with the Giants in 2023. He created seven tackles (three stops) and allowed nine catches on 10 targets (one pass breakup) for 118 yards and one touchdown pass into his coverage.
Green injured his shoulder during the Giants’ preseason game against the Jets but is now cleared following surgery.
Green (6-1, 183) ran the 40-yard dash in 4.53 seconds, hit 37.5″ in the vertical leap, covered 10-6 in the broad jump, finished the short shuttle 4.51 seconds and three-cone drill in 7.1 seconds and completed 12 reps on the bench press. His Relative Athletic Score is 6.64 out of 10.0.
Green joins a cornerback group in Green Bay featuring Jaire Alexander, Eric Stokes, Keisean Nixon, Carrington Valentine, Corey Ballentine and Robert Rochell, all holdovers from last year’s roster.
The secondary will certainly be a point of emphasis in a Jeff Hafley led defense. Adding personnel who can contribute both in the secondary and on special teams will be huge for this team in 2024.
