The Milwaukee Brewers have one of the youngest teams in Major League Baseball. When Opening Day rolled around, Milwaukee had 12 players that made their first career Opening Day roster. Indeed, the Brewers are in the midst of a youth movement that is being propelled by several high-profile prospects.
Of course, the most celebrated of these prospects is outfielder Jackson Chourio, who so far this season is hitting .278/.316/.472 with two home runs and seven RBI. In addition to Major League Baseball’s number two overall prospect, the Brewers boast young stars such as Sal Frelick, Brice Turang, and Joey Ortiz, all of whom are batting over .300 through the season’s first 10 games.
The Milwaukee Brewers Have a Stud Catching Prospect Waiting in the Wings
Jeferson Quero is the Brewers’ number three overall prospect behind Chourio and right-handed pitcher Jacob Misiorowski. He is also ranked as Major League Baseball’s 33rd-best prospect.
At 21 years old, Quero still has some development to do, but he did start the 2024 season with Triple-A Nashville. Last season, playing for Double-A Biloxi, he hit .262/.339/.441 with 16 home runs and 49 RBI. He also established himself as one of the best defensive up-and-coming catchers in baseball.
During Spring Training this past year, Quero hit .211/.238/.421 with a home run and four RBI before being assigned to minor league camp.
Milwaukee Brewers Star Prospect Jeferson Quero Is Out for the 2024 Season
Unfortunately, Quero’s first season in Triple-A did not last very long. After drawing a walk in his first plate appearance with the Nashville Sounds, Quero dove back to first base during a pick-off attempt. He injured his shoulder and had to be removed from the game.
On Wednesday afternoon, the club announced that Quero has a torn laberum and will miss nine months, ending his 2024 season before it could even begin.
Quero was expected to get his first call up to the Majors at some point this season.
