The Green Bay Packers may have just done it again. For the third time in a row the Packers look like they have a franchise quarterback on their hands. Jordan Love finished the 2023 regular season with 4,159 passing yards, 32 passing touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. A heck of a start to a career.
Now the Packers could be adding a veteran to help Love reach the next level.
The Green Bay Packers Could Add Huge Piece To Offense For Jordan Love
Alex Ballentine of Bleacher Report highlighted how this could happen:
Broncos Receive: 2024 second-round pick (No. 58 overall)
Packers Receive: OT Garett Bolles
A final idea that would bring better protection for Love moving forward would be to target Garett Bolles. He played over 1,000 snaps last season and only gave up three sacks while earning a 75.9 grade from PFF.
The 31-year-old also wasn’t shy about voicing frustration with another losing season in Denver. He’s an obvious trade candidate for a Broncos team that is facing a tight cap situation. They are expected to release Russell Wilson, which will make cap room even more precious.
The Broncos are already $25.7 million over the cap right now and trading Bolles would free up $16 million.
The Packers don’t usually trade picks for players, but they have five selections in the top 100 and 11 total in this year’s draft. If there’s a time to use one of those picks for someone who could be a veteran difference-maker, it’s now.
Tackles don’t make it to the trade market very often, so it’s hard to nail down a realistic price but Denver should jump at the opportunity to get another Day 2 pick after trading for Sean Payton last offseason.
Would The Packers Trade Premium Draft Capital For A Veteran?
Brian Gutekunst has made it clear that he is open to the idea of using draft picks to acquire a veteran this off-season.
However, adding a veteran tackle when the Packers already have David Bakhtiari doesn’t make the most sense. It may be easier to restructure Bakhtiari’s contract and use that draft pick to continue to build for the future.
Bakhtiari proved in week one of the 2023 season that he is still darn good at what he does when he is healthy. If the Packers get him healthy, and the financials worked out, we could see #69 on the field again for Green Bay.
