Green Bay Packers wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks had a successful rookie season for a fifth-round selection from Virginia. Wicks caught 39 passes for 581 yards receiving and four touchdowns. He averaged 14.9 yards per reception and was targeted 58 times by quarterback Jordan Love.
Dontayvion Wicks was the third wide receiver in several games this season because of the injuries to wide receiver Christian Watson. Wicks is only 22 years old and he is 6’1″ and weighs 206 lbs. He has a lot of room to grow in the immediate future.
With the 2023 season in the rearview mirror, pro football focus listed one ‘secret superstar’ for each NFL team moving forward. For the Packers, it was Dontayvion Wicks. The reasoning they gave for him why he will be their secret superstar moving forward by saying:
“The Packers’ young receiving room exceeded all expectations in 2023 alongside Jordan Love, and Wicks’ involvement in the offense was a nice surprise. The rookie fifth-round pick hit the ground running and never looked back, catching 39 passes for 581 yards and four touchdowns, earning a 77.8 PFF grade — 26th among all receivers in the NFL. Wicks was one of the best yards-after-catch receivers in the NFL too, showing his real ability as a playmaker with the ball in his hands. He averaged 5.6 yards after the catch per reception this season, 19th-most in the NFL.”
It will be interesting to see where Wicks is going to wind up on the Packers depth chart entering next season.
Green Bay Packers Wide Receiver Dontayvion Wicks Never Struggles To Get Open
Wicks never struggled to get opened this season for the Packers against 1-on-1 coverage. Love had a very good passing rate when targeting him this past year. The chemistry between Love and Wicks will only grow stronger as time goes on.
Jayden Reed will be the number-one wide receiver on the depth chart next season. Romeo Doubs will be the second wide receiver on the depth chart. Wicks and Christian Watson will battle it out for the third wide receiver spot on the roster, but they both will see snaps no matter what.
Having Wicks as your third or fourth receiving option with room to grow is a very dangerous thing for this offense. Wicks does have some Davante Adams potential and that’s saying something for a fifth-round selection.
