The Green Bay Packers played one of their best games of the season when they defeated the Los Angeles Chargers 23-20 on Sunday afternoon. While the defense caught a few breaks thanks to dropped passes by Chargers wide receivers, the offense looked better than it had in any game since Week One.
Unfortunately for the Packers, the win came at a staggering cost. Multiple players suffered a plethora of injuries that may keep them out of multiple weeks. As the team as a quick turnaround and will play the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving (tomorrow), this is far from ideal.
Green Bay has not practiced this week in an attempt to get healthy, but has still released an injury report with estimates on whether or not each of their injured players would have participated. And that list is extensive.
One-Third of the Green Bay Packers’ Starters Are on the Injury Report
What is so frustrating is that the Packers’ offense seemed to reach a new level on Sunday, and looked poised to be ready to take another jump against the Lions. However, most of their starters are listed on the injury report and may not play:

Injuries on the Green Bay Packers’ Offense
While many players on the Packers’ injury report may still be able to suit up, the following offensive players will most certainly miss the Thanksgiving matchup in Detroit:
- Luke Musgrave (lacerated kidney)
- Aaron Jones (MCL sprain)
- Dontayvion Wicks (concussion)
- Josiah Deguara (hip)
- Emanuel Wilson (separated shoulder)
As reported earlier, Musgrave’s injury was bad enough that he ended up in the hospital. Head coach Matt LaFleur would not commit to putting him on injured reserve, but also would not rule out it happening eventually.
Jones’ injury appeared to be much worse than it was when it happened. He is considered week-to-week.
Wicks almost certainly will not clear concussion protocol a mere four days after suffering the injury.
Deguara barely played against Los Angeles and the Packers may go into the game against Detroit with just Tucker Kraft and Ben Sims at tight end.
The Packers signed both Patrick Taylor and James Robinson to make up for the loss of Jones and Wilson.
Other offensive players on the injury report that will likely play are:
- AJ Dillon (groin)
- Jayden Reed (chest)
- Christian Watson (shoulder)
- Elgton Jenkins (knee)
Injuries on the Green Bay Packers’ Defense
The Packers’ defense has been hit hard by the injury bug all season long. That being said, there is only one defensive player on the injury report that would not have practiced at all this week: De’Vondre Campbell. While losing Campbell for this game would be a serious blow, especially to the run defense, at least he is the only one with a DNP next to his name.
One aspect of the Packers’ injury report that is actually great news for the team is that Darnell Savage has been designated to return from injured reserve. This does not mean he will play on Thanksgiving, but that he could. Green Bay has 21 days to add him to the 53-man roster.
All other other defensive players on the injury report would have practiced in some manner, which is very hopeful considering how beat up the offense is. The Packers will need their defense to step up in a big way tomorrow.
