The Green Bay Packers have a major puzzle ahead of them this offseason. They have already seen wide receiver Allen Lazard sign with the New York Jets, and presumably will be trading Aaron Rodgers to the Jets soon, too. However, a recent report states that a trade could occur later rather than sooner. In other news not related to Rodgers, but could be just as vital for the future of the franchise, the Packers made a crucial decision regarding offensive tackle Yosh Nijman.
The Green Bay Packers Have Placed a Second Round Tender on Yosh Nijman

According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, the Packers have decided to play a second round tender on Yosh Nijman, who is a restricted free agent:
The #Packers put a second-round RFA tender on OL Yosh Nijman, per source. It’s worth $4.304M.
The #Cowboys also officially put a second-round tender on OL Terence Steele.

So what does that mean for the Packers? It means that Nijman can sign his tender, essentially a one-year contract, and make $4.304 million this season. This does not mean, however, that other teams cannot sign him. If a team wanted to, they could match or offer Nijman more money to sign with them. The Packers would have the right to match any offer. However, if they chose not to, and Nijman signed with a different team, the Packers would be awarded a compensatory second round draft pick.
Nijman is a serviceable offensive tackle who performed admirably in 2021 when David Bakhtiari and Elgton Jenkins were lost with torn ACL’s. He also has played extremely well at right tackle. In short, by placing a tender on him, the Packers have ensured that they have a quality tackle for offensive line depth in 2023 or an extra second round pick.
Win-win.
