The Green Bay Packers are in the market for a veteran wide receiver this summer, and a top target could be heading into their division. Head coach Matt LaFleur wanted to gauge where his young pass-catching core was during OTAs before deciding what kind of outside help to bring in. Many fans ogled DeAndre Hopkins when he was released by the Arizona Cardinals.
Hopkins appears to want to play for a contending team. The Packers might not be on his list of teams to play for during quarterback Jordan Love’s transition year. (Love’s predecessor, Aaron Rodgers, has decent odds to play with Hopkins this year.) But the Packers could see a little of Hopkins this season, just as an opponent in the NFC North.
Will the Detroit Lions sign DeAndre Hopkins?
Shannon Sharpe said the Lions were a logical option for Hopkins to sign with for this season during his recent show on Undisputed:
“I know a team that has got a pretty good offense that played really well last year and has $24 million under the cap, and that’s the Detroit Lions,” Sharpe said. “Plus, Jameson Williams is going to miss the first six games of the season. So it seems like that’s the natural fit.”
The Lions are favorites to win the NFC North. The Lions could use Hopkins as a veteran target for quarterback Jared Goff to lead them for a run in the playoffs. The Lions need another wide receiver to start the season anyways after Jameson Williams’ six-game suspension from the NFL for gambling.
The Lions have the best chance to land Hopkins of any NFC North team, but the All-Pro wide receiver won’t likely end up in Detroit. Goff wasn’t on Hopkins’ list of top quarterbacks to play with, and the Lions aren’t considered by many to be a true Super Bowl contender this season.
Will the Minnesota Vikings sign DeAndre Hopkins?
In the NBA, teams who are bottom playoff contenders but don’t have a prayer of winning the Finals are considered to be in NBA hell. The Vikings are in NFL hell. Kirk Cousins could benefit from having Hopkins and Justin Jefferson to throw to. But Hopkins probably doesn’t want to enter the incoming mess about to hit the Vikings in the next few seasons as the Cousins-Dalvin Cook era ends in failure.

Will the Chicago Bears sign DeAndre Hopkins?
The Bears have been aggressive since last season’s trade deadline to get Justin Fields’ help on offense with wide receivers Chase Claypool and D.J. Moore. The Bears’ offense could be lethal with Hopkins on the field this season. However, the Bears’ fate will rest on how their defense gels after seeing no improvements made to the pass rush. That should keep Hopkins from signing on to a potential Wild Card contender.
Will the Green Bay Packers sign DeAndre Hopkins?
The Packers had the best odds to trade for Hopkins in January. That all changed when Aaron Rodgers was traded to the Jets. The Packers, in the words of left tackle David Bakhtiari, are in “rebuild” mode. And while they may be competitive this season, they’re not a Super Bowl contender. That’s where Hopkins wants to go.

I seriously doubt Hopkins will end up in GB. First, he wants to be on a contender and GB looks like a long shot in 2033. Secondly, GB won’t sacrifice its small cap space on one player. Thirdly, Hopkins is a risk health wise. Anyway you slice it, Hopkins on GB looks like a long, long shot.
