Aaron Rodgers is seemingly now in a much better place to land a wide receiver many Green Bay Packers fans have hoped would play for their team. The Arizona Cardinals released DeAndre Hopkins on Friday. Hopkins was expected to part ways with the Cardinals this offseason as the team rebuilds its roster.
The Green Bay Packers had the best odds for DeAndre Hopkins
Earlier this offseason, the Packers were listed by oddsmakers as the likeliest team to land Hopkins for the 2023 campaign. However, much has changed in the NFL world since those odds were made in January. Rodgers’ trade to the New York Jets has changed the dynamics of the kinds of talks the Packers can have with Hopkins. The 30-year-old wide receiver wants to play with a contender. The cash-strapped Packers are just trying to see their new starting quarterback have a successful practice.

Hopkins recently named five quarterbacks he’d like to play for this season. Rodgers isn’t one of them, but Hopkins could be converted to play for a Jets team that is all in on winning a Super Bowl this season. It seems like many bettors think Hopkins would be a good fit with Rodgers in New York.
The odds are tilting in Aaron Rodgers’ favor
According to the Action Network, the Jets have the third-best odds to land Hopkins in free agency at +600 odds. The Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills are tied for the best odds at +300. The Packers…they’re not on the list. That’s tough luck for a Packers team that needs a veteran pass catcher to add to their roster and has most certainly kept their eyes on Hopkins over the past few months.

While the Jets don’t have the same odds as the Chiefs or Bills, +600 means sportsbooks think Hopkins has a good chance to be catching passes from Rodgers this fall. Watching Rodgers finally get an elite free agent signing at wide receiver with the Jets would be another kick in the pants for Packers fans this offseason.
