Green Bay Packers Fans React To Shocking Davante Adams Trade Report

The Green Bay Packers moved on from arguably the best wide receiver in the NFL last off-season.  After Adams made it clear he wouldn’t be signing a long-term extension with the Packers, they dealt him to the Las Vegas Raiders for multiple premium draft picks.

Much has happened in Las Vegas since that trade.  Most notably, the Raiders moved on from quarterback Derek Carr.  Carr played a large roll in Adams’ decision to ask for a trade out west.  Now that he is gone, many believe Adams’ future in Vegas could be cut shorter than expected.

Cleveland Browns Named As Potential Trade Suitor For Davante Adams

Robin Adams, Co-Owner of Wisconsin Sports Heroics and Gridiron Heroics, highlighted a recent report regarding Davante Adams possibly being targeted by the Cleveland Browns:

Despite the fact that the 2023 NFL regular season begins in less than two weeks, there are still writers and fans that are proposing trades that can improve their teams. And it is not completely unheard of. After all, the San Francisco 49ers just traded 2021 third overall pick Trey Lance to the Dallas Cowboys for a 2024 fourth round pick.

This particular trade idea, though, seems far-fetched. One Cleveland Browns writer suggests that the team could target Adams via trade if the Raiders’ season does not get off to a good start:

“At one point, Josh McDaniels was seen as the savior Cleveland needed. Now, he looks to be trying to salvage his second head coaching position with Jimmy Garoppolo taking over for Derek Carr. Adams pushed for a trade to the Las Vegas Raiders to team with Carr and could be looking for his way out if the season doesn’t start well.

“While Adams reuniting with Aaron Rodgers will be discussed, joining the Browns would give the team a much better version of DeAndre Hopkins that fans wanted this offseason. Adams is a precise, talented route runner that would create perfection in Cleveland’s passing attack.”

The problem with this trade scenario is that if the Raiders are struggling, they will want early draft picks in return for Adams if they do even consider trading him. Remember, the Packers were able to get a first and second round pick for him even though he had not signed his franchise tag and would not play for them.

One would assume that since Adams is still in his prime and is under contract through the 2026 season, the Raiders could garner even more picks for him. This all but disqualifies the Browns, who have just two picks in the first four rounds of the 2024 NFL Draft.

The Raiders would probably ask for both of those picks and their 2025 first round pick if the Browns seriously considered trading for Adams.

As dominant as the Browns’ wide receiver room would be with Adams, mortgaging that much of the future is probably not worth it.

When fans saw Adams could be traded for the second time in as many off-seasons, fans reacted accordingly on social media:

The Browns are really going to trade for Diggs or Davante Adams and win the whole thing. Don’t say I didn’t tell you

With Corey Davis’ retirement, the Jets now have $19.5M in cap space

Cap hits of rumored trade candidates at WR in 2023:

    – Davante Adams: $14.7M

    – Mike Evans: $23.7M

    – Chris Godwin: $8.6M

All seem like plausible mid-season moves given NYJ’s current WR depth chart
