Green Bay Packers wide receiver Christian Watson had a big night against the Kansas City Chiefs in the 27-19 win, but he left the game in the fourth quarter with a hamstring injury. This is not the first time this season that Watson has dealt with hamstring issues.
He missed the first three games of the 2023 NFL regular season because of hamstring problems. Before he suffered that injury in the fourth quarter, Watson looked great in the game. He finished the game with seven receptions for 71 yards receiving and two touchdowns.
Christain Watson and Jordan Love were finally starting to get on the same page. Watson had a 9-yard touchdown reception in the second quarter and a 12-yard touchdown reception in the third quarter. On the season, Christian Watson has caught 28 passes for 422 yards receiving and five touchdowns. He is averaging 15.1 yards per catch and has been targeted 53 times this season.
He also has 11 yards rushing on four carries and no touchdowns and is averaging 2.8 yards per carry. Watson is the most talented wide receiver on the Green Bay Packers roster. There were struggles between him and Jordan Love earlier this season until the last two weeks.
Will see how serious the hamstring injury is for him. Green Bay’s next game is not until next Monday night on the road against the New York Giants (4-8).
Green Bay Packers wide receiver Christian Watson Can’t Afford To Miss More Time This Season
Packers wide receiver Watson has had an up-and-down second season in the NFL. To say it has been smooth sailing would be a massive stretch. Watson has not had the best season and there have been fans that have questioned whether he is the top wide receiver on the team or not.
Luckily, the Packers have a deep receiving core after Watson with Romeo Doubs, Malik Heath, Jayden Reed, and Dontayvion Wicks. Jordan Love has been connecting with other wide receivers other than Christian Watson.
If Watson were to miss more time this season with his hamstring issues, then he would be back to square one. It was unfortunate to see him get hurt in the fourth quarter against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Watson told the media after the game:
“I’ll go talk to the trainers, figure out what’s going on. But, yeah, we’ve got to get that sorted out.”
We will have a better idea on Monday or later in the week of where Watson stands for his Week 14 availability. Head coach Matt LaFleur hopes to have him available but we will see what happens.
