Some are calling the Green Bay Packers’ 2023 season a “re-building” one. Others disagree as the team may already have their next franchise quarterback on the roster. The Packers could be a team that benefits from another team in the league who feel the need to start completely over.
The Carolina Panthers spent the first overall draft pick in this years’ on QB Bryce Young. However, after an 0-6 start to the year, the team is reportedly open to trading multiple starting players.
The Green Bay Packers Have Been Linked To The Carolina Panthers This Season
REPORT: #Panthers CB Donte Jackson, Safety Jeremy Chinn and WR Terrance Marshall are “Available for trade”, according to @AlbertBreer https://t.co/gGbW8jvQeU
Breer says he heard those 3 players are available with Pass-Rusher Brian Burns is also rumored as an option as well.… https://t.co/wzZL1x8G98 pic.twitter.com/IeLgDz7Q2k

It is no secret that the Panthers are one of the worst teams in the NFL through the first Six Weeks. During the off-season the Panthers mortgaged their immediate future by trading away D.J. Moore, next year’s first round draft pick, and a 2025 second round draft pick for the number one overall pick in 2023.
Now that reality is setting in that the team may be further away from a winning football team than originally thought, they are clearly trying to recoup some of that trade compensation they lost.
The Packers have been linked to Brian Burns before, as the trade deadline approaches could they actually pull the trigger on a massive trade? We have seen two straight off-seasons where the Packers were involved in arguably the biggest trade in the league (Davante Adams and Aaron Rodgers). Clearly they are not afraid to make a big move.
However, with the team expected to re-sign Rashan Gary as well as spending a 2023 first round draft pick on a pass rusher (Lukas Van Ness), it would be surprising to see them spend more draft capital at that position.
Another player the Packers have been linked to is Safety Jeremy Chinn. This could be a more reasonably priced trade the team could get involved in.
In 2023, the Packers would absorb just $1.62 million of his contract if he were traded. However, he isn’t under contract beyond this season, and that would have to be negotiated between Brian Gutekunst, Russ Ball, and Jeremy Chinn. It appears the Panthers are open to trading Chinn according to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated. This could be an easy reinforcement trade that would greatly benefit the Packers’ defense.
