Former Green Bay Packers Quarterback Brett Favre has certainly been going through it in his personal life over the last few years. According to the Mississippi Department of Human Services, Favre received $1.1 million in speaking fees from a nonprofit organization that spent welfare with its approval.
Accusations including building a volleyball arena at the University of Southern Mississippi was to be built with the funds from Temporary Assistance for Needy Families. In 2017, Favre’s daughter joined the volleyball team at his alma mater, and he agreed to lead fundraising efforts for the facility.
Now apparent leaked text messages are being reported from Favre himself.
Former Green Bay Packers QB Brett Favre Has Text Message Leaked According To One Reporter
According to AJ Perez of Front Office Sports (formerly worked with CBS Sports, Fox Sports, and USA Today):
NEWS: Some new texts to/from Brett Favre were obtained by Front Office Sports.
Favre texted Nancy New on May 13, 2020:
“Is the money I was paid 100% legal for the radio commercials?”
At this point, Favre already started to pay back the $1.1M in TANF funds he received for speeches/PSAs that were funneled through New’s nonprofit. Favre has denied knowing the money was sourced from federal welfare funds.
In response to Favre’s text, New responded:
“It will be confidential that you are accepting payment. Totally. Zach, my accountant, John Davis and I are the only ones that will have that information.” Nancy New and her son, Zack, and former MS Department of Human Services chief John Davis were indicted on state charges in early ‘20.
Way back in 2017. Favre sent this well-reported text to New:
“If you were to pay me, is there anyway [sic] the media can find out where it came from and how much?”
The other notable new text was another exchange came a day later (May 14, 2020) where New told Favre she was “so scared because of Prevacus” and she “may have to go to jail.” (New is currently out on bond and faces several years in prison.) Favre responded:
“OK.”

What Is Currently Going On With Favre’s Situation?
Despite repaying $500,000 in May 2020 and $600,000 in October 2021, Favre still owes the state $729,790 due to interest according to Emily Pettus of the Associated Press.
“It boggles the mind that Mr. Favre could imagine he is entitled to the equivalent of an interest-free loan of $1.1 million in taxpayer money, especially money intended for the benefit of the poor,” Auditor Shad White said in a statement.
A voicemail message was left Monday for two of Favre’s attorneys, but they did not return the call.
Shannon Sharpe, a broadcaster and former NFL player, was dismissed by a federal judge in October on charges of defamation. Following an apology from sportscaster Pat McAfee, Favre also ended his defamation lawsuit against McAfee, who was a former NFL punter.
