The Green Bay Packers‘ 2023 season can to an end on Saturday night, though that ending may have come later than many had first thought before the season began. Indeed, not many picked the Packers to do much of anything in their first season without Aaron Rodgers or Brett Favre under center. Instead, many believed that Jordan Love and the NFL’s youngest roster would flounder to the depths of NFC.
And for a while, it seemed as if those predictions would be right. Green Bay started the season 2-5 while all three phases of the team, especially the offense, struggled. However, Love and his young group of pass catchers found a rhythm and the Packers finished the season 7-3.
For his part, Love finished the year with the best season a Packers quarterback ever had in his first year starting:
Quarterback | Completion % | Yards | Touchdowns | Interceptions | Passer Rating |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Jordan Love | 64.2% | 4,159 | 32 | 11 | 96.1 |
Aaron Rodgers | 63.6% | 4,038 | 28 | 13 | 93.8 |
Brett Favre | 64.1% | 3,227 | 18 | 13 | 85.3 |
In doing so, Love proved many people wrong and showed that he is, indeed, the next franchise quarterback in Green Bay. So impressive was he that the Hall of Famer who started this run of incredible Packers quarterback play believes Love may end up being the best in franchise history.
Brett Favre Thinks Jordan Love Could End Up as the Best Quarterback in Green Bay Packers History
After the Packers’ disappointing 24-21 loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Saturday night, Favre posted the following message to the team, and Love, on his X (formerly Twitter) account:
Great game and tough loss for my Packers. I’m sure I speak for all packer fans when I say “we are very proud of you and can’t wait to see what the future holds”. Lots to be excited about.Jordan keep your chin up because I believe you can be the best Packer QB yet.Congrats 49ers

Obviously, the idea that Love could end up being the best Packers quarterback ever is a bold prediction. Green Bay already boasts three Hall of Fame quarterbacks (Arnie Herber, Bart Starr, and Favre) and will have another one in Aaron Rodgers. Can Love really surpass all four of them by the time his career is over?
That remains to be seen, of course, but Love is off to a great start. He became the first Packers quarterback to lead his team to the NFL playoffs in his first season as the starter. As seen above, his stats are better than both Favre’s and Rodgers’ in their first years starting.
If Favre is right, it would mean that Love has multiple MVP seasons and Super Bowl wins ahead of him.
Which would be exciting for all Packers fans, even the ones who didn’t want Love to begin with.
