The Green Bay Packers have moved on from a number of wide receivers over recent years. In fact, all of their starting wide receivers going into 2024 were drafted within the last few years. Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, Jayden Reed, Dontayvion Wicks, and Bo Melton were all acquired on or after 2022.
Now concerning reports are surfacing for one former starting wide receiver the Packers decided to move on from.
One Former Green Bay Packers Starting Wide Receiver May Not Make It To The Start Of The 2024 Season
According to David Kenyon of Bleacher Report:
New York Jets: Allen Lazard, WR
Between the influence Aaron Rodgers wields and negligible financial savings, I would not consider Allen Lazard a likely cut. Besides, maybe a healthy season from Rodgers will spark his former Green Bay Packers teammate. Lazard, nevertheless, had a ghastly 23 catches last year and might only be the Jets’ fourth receiver in 2024.
Will Allen Lazard Be A Member Of The New York Jets Come Week One?
In 2023, Lazard posted just 311 yards for the Jets, his worst season of his career. He had 788 yards and six touchdowns the previous year. It followed a 500-plus yard and eight touchdown performance.
If his health permits, the 28-year-old should be better than a year ago this season with Rodgers tossing him the football. Being the fourth wide receiver in this offense, Lazard shouldn’t have as much to do as he did last season.
It will be a significant improvement over last year’s unit if he can return to what he used to be.
It is likely the Jets keep him on the roster come Week One just to see if that Aaron Rodgers connection is still there, however, if he continues his poor performance, he will likely end the season as a free agent.
