The Green Bay Packers may have done it for a third time. Jordan Love has looked like the franchise quarterback the team hoped he’d be when they traded up for him in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Over the last month he has led the team past the Chargers, Lions, and Chiefs. Three potential playoff teams in a row.
The future looks bright with Love, however, the Packers will need to put a team around him that will remain competitive. Between the 2022 and 2023 Drafts the Packers have put together a talented young roster around Love. That being said, the Packers could move on from one current starter according to one report.
The Green Bay Packers Are Likely To Move On From AJ Dillon Before The 2024 Season
Matt Schneidman of The Athletic expects AJ Dillon to be the odd man out this coming off-season:
This is a tricky one. Dillon has proven to be a solid No. 2 running back, but he’s not quite your prototypical feature back. The Packers can find a new No. 2 for cheaper through the draft and potentially have that guy sit behind Jones on the depth chart for a year before taking over lead-back duties in 2025.
Dillon has certainly looked better lately compared to early in the season, but he might have had to establish himself as a bonafide No. 1 back to earn a contract extension and that hasn’t, and won’t, happen. There remains the possibility, however, that the Packers move on from Jones, re-sign Dillon to a one-year deal and draft someone early to sit behind or share carries with Dillon.
But Dillon and his camp might want a multiyear deal, which the Packers might not be willing to give. The Packers could also move on from both Jones and Dillon, or they could move on from neither. Running back is probably Green Bay’s most intriguing position this coming offseason, for reasons you can see.
Would The Packers Actually Move On From Dillon?
Green Bay’s 25-year-old running back has appeared in every game this season, rushing for 405 yards and one touchdown on 117 carries, as well as catching 16 passes for 146 yards. As of late he has been a breath of fresh air at a position that lost their star.
Dillon’s best season came in 2021 when he accounted for over 1,000 total yards and seven touchdowns. However, his stats have decreased each season since. With Aaron Jones turning 30 next season and Dillon not making a case to be a true RB1, the position itself could get a complete overhaul.

I very much doubt this. He’s been great in the last few games and Jones is surely gone, having reached the age when RBs just get hurt and lose explosiveness.
There are 5 important games left and the offense is clicking. He’s over 550 total yards and could easily surpass that career high of 1000.
They will have to rebuild the position. He’ll still be part of it for a year or two.
