Former Green Bay Packers wide receiver Devante Adams has a lot of history with Aaron Rodgers. This is exactly why Adams, who now plies his trade with the Las Vegas Raiders, was absolutely gutted when he saw his former teammate go down with a devastating injury in his New York Jets debut.
Adams has now spoken out about Rodgers’ Achilles injury, and the All-Pro WR admits that it was like watching a bad movie unfold right before his eyes.
Former Green Bay Packers WR Davante Adams Speaks Out on Aaron Rodgers Injury
Much like the rest of the NFL, Adams has also had his fair of injuries through the years. However, he has not had to suffer one that is as horrific as Roders’ season-ending Achilles tear. The 30-year-old pass-catcher revealed that he’s already reached out to Rodgers in the wake of this heartbreaking development:
“Really tough, man,” Adams said in his Wednesday press conference, via Myles Simmons of PFT. “I didn’t want to really take to social media because I spoke to him directly and reached out immediately. I was watching it on the plane as we were on the way over here. And it’s like a horrible movie, you don’t want to see the main character go down like that at all, let alone as early as what it was. And I know he was excited and I was definitely excited to see him go out there and ball out. I know he was feeling rejuvenated and excited about the opportunity to work with a really good team, so it sucks.”
Davante Adams on Aaron Rodgers: ‘That’s My Guy’
Adams and Rodgers go way back. The former played eight seasons in Green Bay before he moved to Las Vegas in 2022. Throughout his time with the Packers, Rodgers was his quarterback. In fact, these two formed one of the deadliest QB-WR partnerships in the entire NFL. As such, Adams could not help but get emotional in discussing his buddy’s current predicament:
“That’s my guy though, so I let him know basically I’m here for him in whatever way that I can,” Adams continued. “I don’t know what I can do to make him feel better at this point, especially obviously with us being in season now as well, but like I said, it sucks and I’m just praying that his mental is in a good spot right now and he continues to overcome it, and obviously that team as well.”
Davante Adams Puts In Strong Performance in Week 1 for Las Vegas Raiders
For his part, though, Davante Adams had a much better Week 1 than his former quarterback. The Raiders wide receiver played his part in Las Vegas’ 17-16 win over the Denver Broncos as Adams linked up with new QB Jimmy Garoppolo. Adams caught six passes for 66 yards as he helped Las Vegas scrape out a hard-fought win over Denver.
The Raiders get another tough matchup in Week 2 against Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.
