The Green Bay Packers are sitting at 2-5 on the 2023 NFL season and any hope for a playoff appearance is quickly dwindling (if not completely gone already). Much of the teams’ struggles have come from the offensive side of the ball. The inability to sustain drives, the lack of first half points, the lack of consistent and effective play calling have all had a detrimental effect on this team.
Moving forward, would the team consider adding a veteran playmaker to the offense to try to boost their productivity? One analyst seems to think so.
Green Bay Packers Linked To Veteran Wide Receiver Kenny Golladay After 2023 Trade Deadline
According and article by AtoZ Sports:
WR Kenny Golladay
Golladay had been a really good receiver for the Detroit Lions, but his experience for the New York Giants was a disaster. Now he’s available, and could be a decent veteran option to add in an extremely young receiving room.
Golladay recorded 65 receptions for 1,190 yards and 11 touchdowns during the 2019 season with Detroit. It was clear that many thought he was going to be a future superstar, which is why the Giants signed him to a major contract. It may be possible for him to resurrect his career by joining a team like the Packers.
Would The Packers Consider Bringing In Golladay?
In short, there is a very small chance the Packers consider bringing in Golladay. Golladay is 29-years-old (turns 30 on November 3rd, 2023) and is clearly past his prime. Signing him would completely go against the unofficial “youth movement” that the Packers committed to this off-season.
No matter how the 2023 season ends, it is likely that Jordan Love will be back for at least one more year. The core of Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, Jayden Reed, Luke Musgrave, and Tucker Kraft is one that the front office wants to grow together. While they may not seem like contenders in 2023, it is possible they develop into one in 2024 or 2025. Adding a veteran to the mix would hinder the progress of the younger athletes on offense.
Additionally, Golladay hasn’t played a snap since 2022. That season he appeared in 12 games while only starting four of them.
