Former Wisconsin Badgers Signed by Denver Broncos

It’s official, the Denver Broncos are my team to cheer for in the AFC. If you told me a couple years ago that Russell Wilson and Melvin Gordon would team up in the NFL, it would be a Badger fans dream come true. On top of the Badger backfield, Denver showed their love for Bucky by drafting two Wisconsin defenders, Faion Hicks and Matt Henningsen. Both former Badgers agreed to 4-year deals with the Denver Broncos.

    Faion Hicks

Faion Hicks quickly became a Badger fan favorite in his time at Madison. An undersized corner at just 5’10, Faion makes up for this with his athleticism. Running a 4.37 40-yard dash at Wisconsin’s Pro Day, along with a 37.5 inch vertical jump. Faion is gonna have to do some things he wasn’t asked to do at Wisconsin to stay at the next level. He wasn’t asked to come up and tackle much, considering the Badgers had one of the best front 7’s in all of College Football. Hicks also didn’t participate in much special teams, which is something he will have to do for the Broncos.

A 4-year deal that is worth up to $3.7 million. I’m so happy for Faion and his family, who showed their unwavering support with that heartwarming draft day call. Denver has had some struggles with secondary depth so if Faion finds his way in the mix, I expect him to compete his tail off every play. Maybe even becoming a serviceable Nickelback.

    Matt Henningsen

Pretty fitting that Henningsen ended up on the Denver Broncos. His new Twitter profile picture is a young Matt rocking a Champ Bailey Broncos jersey. Henningsen will have a chance to compete for a spot in the defensive line rotation. He excels in a 3-4 system where he wreaked havoc for the Badgers. A good athlete for his size, NFL network called him a “phone booth brawler”. However, he lacks a consistent skill set when rushing the passer or filling gaps in the run. Like Faion, Henningsen also signed a 4-year deal worth up to $3.8 million.

We wish all of our former Badgers the best on their next journeys, and it was nice to see these guys make their dreams come true. Make sure you Badger fans watch as many Broncos games as you can and support our Badgers! Follow for more news about Badgers signing NFL contracts.
