The Green Bay Packers have former players all over the football world. Of course, they have former players on other teams in the NFL (Aaron Jones on the Minnesota Vikings, Aaron Rodgers on the New York Jets, De’Vondre Campbell on the San Francisco 49ers, etc.), but they also have former players playing in other professional football leagues as well.

Former tight end Jace Sternberger, for example has experienced a great deal of success with the Birmingham Stallions of the USFL. Last season, he was named to the All-USFL Team after recording 33 receptions for 517 yards and seven touchdowns. So far this season, he has 23 receptions for 401 yards and three touchdowns.

Unfortunately, not every former player finds that kind of success upon leaving Green Bay and/or the NFL.

One of these players is former wide receiver Geronimo Allison, who spent four seasons with the Packers from 2016-2019. During that time, he caught 89 passes for 1,045 yards and six touchdowns.

In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), Packers reporter Easton Butler revealed that Allison had just been released by the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League (CFL).

Last year, Allison played in the XFL with the Vegas Vipers. He had 22 receptions for 240 yards and a touchdown.

After going undrafted in the 2016 NFL Draft, Allison signed with the Packers. He had a good training camp and preseason, but was among the last players cut when the roster trimmed down to 53 players. However, Green Bay re-signed him to their practice squad.

Later that year, he was promoted to the active roster and caught a touchdown pass in his NFL debut. He ended up playing in 10 games as a rookie, catching 12 passes for 202 yards and two touchdowns.

The next year, Allison was suspended for a game for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy. However, he had the best game of his career two weeks after he returned, catching six passes for 122 yards against the Cincinnati Bengals.

In 2018, Allison looked like he was poised to take the next step. Through three weeks, he had 19 receptions for 283 yards and two touchdowns. Unfortunately, he suffered a concussion that seemed to derail him a bit. Later that year, he was placed on injured reserve after needing groin surgery.

Allison returned to Green Bay in 2019 and had a career-high 34 receptions for 283 yards and two touchdowns. That was, however, his last year with the team.

After his four seasons with the Packers, Allison signed with the Detroit Lions. He opted out of the 2020 season due to concerns over COVID-19, but did play in 2021. He did not, however, make their final roster and was signed to their practice squad. He was elevated for three games, but did not record a catch for the Lions.

Allison signed with the Atlanta Falcons in 2022, but was released near the end of training camp.
