The Green Bay Packers have had a number of third-round misses over the last few years. Excluding 2023, the last five third round draft picks include Oren Burks (2018), Jace Sternberger (2019), Josiah Deguara (2020), Amari Rodgers (2021), and Sean Rhyan (2022).
As in life, when you don’t live up to the expectations that others set for you (which isn’t fair to begin with) criticism can ensue. That is especially true in the world of social media. One former Packers tight end has had enough.
Former Green Bay Packers Tight End Jace Sternberger Lashes Out On Social Media

It is obvious that Sterberger’s career didn’t pan out the way he had hoped. After being drafted (and released) by the Packers he bounced around between the Seahawks, Commanders, Steelers, and Bills. Today he posted to social media in regard to those critics:
It is funny that people who never played FB are in my mentions “you were a bust, you didn’t even play” ect.. so if I’m not qualified to speak on football, what on gods green earth makes you qualified?😕🤣

Social media has made it extremely easy for fans to say some pretty wild things to professional athletes. However, it was clear many had Sternberger’s back:
But if you said the complete opposite they would be praising you. It’s sad people just can’t disagree and be friendly.

I’ve never discredited anyone’s opinions. Just asked a question. But I’m sure you have some good ones

Man, the great Gilbert Brown says the same thing all the time on our podcast. Like, less than 1% of the population can do what you did and get to that level in the first place.
People feel invincible behind screens

Unqualified people making unqualified opinions. I could care less how your career went. You worked to get to where you got and nobody can take that away. You should be proud you accomplished what millions of people couldn’t.

Currently a free agent, it is unclear if Sternberger is actively pursuing a return to the NFL.

Well Jace, maybe it’s because you have an 88 IQ and weren’t actually qualified to get into college (as fully a third of all college students are, a huge majority being white athletes).
I played 5 sports in HS and was offered 2 college basketball scholarships. I had registered a 150 IQ in HS and ran a 4.5 40, a 16:30 three mile, and had a 32/42 standing to running vertical with a wingspan that allowed me a 6′ 2″ to reach a little over 8 feet. I once hit 8 three pointers in a quarter against Shelton Smith and at age 35 dunked on MIchael Finley. At age 40 I beat the 2nd best disc golfer in the history of the game.
Jace needs to stop thinking that simple minded sports and simpletons like he are intelligent.
Sports are not hard. EVERYONE plays something these days. Some well, some badly, and there are even people who are mediocre because they don’t have genetic athletic gifts, but they manage to over achieve and do well.
Because sports don’t require much brain power.
Jace makes that obvious.
