The 2022 edition of the Wisconsin High School Volleyball State Championship takes place from November 3rd through 5th at the Resch Center in Green Bay, Wisconsin. All four divisions will be in action at various times throughout the three days. Let’s take a look at the seeding for Division 2:
#1 Xavier
Unlike any of the other divisions in the state tournament, Division 2 has a fresh slate. All four teams that made it to the semi-finals are brand new and didn’t make the trip last season. It all begins with #1 Xavier. This team put up 37 wins on the season with just seven losses, including a pair on October 1st. A slow start saw Xavier begin 6-4 before winning 17 straight. After blowing through their four playoff opponents in three sets, Xavier is a promising #1 seed looking to do some damage at the Resch.
#2 Sauk Prairie
The #2 seed in Division 2 is one of the few teams in Wisconsin with 40+ wins in the regular season. Sitting at 40-3 overall, Amy Schlimgen’s crew is trying to make a run. They were 36-3 last season before falling in the Sectional Finals to state runner up, McFarland. McFarland also ended their 2019 season, but this year Sauk Prairie is on a mission. Oddly enough, they punched their ticket to the final four with a win over Edgewood in McFarland. That was a redeeming win for the team as Edgewood beat them just a few weeks prior in the Badger West Conference invite.
#3 Wisconsin Lutheran
Wisconsin Lutheran has played a whopping 51 games on the year, coming in at 35-16. Even though they were just 4-2 in the Woodland West conference, they defeated the 6-0 conference champions, New Berlin West, in five sets in the Regional Finals. After a slow 2-3 start to the season, Wisconsin Lutheran won seven straight and began to pick up the momentum. They lost 6 of 11 games from September 17th to 27th, but that rough stretch molded this team into who they are today. They got some help along the way as both #1 Kettle Moraine Lutheran and #1 Saint Thomas More went down in the Regional Finals, but out of all the teams left in the state tournament, Wisconsin Lutheran has faced the most adversity and truly defied the odds to make it this far.
#4 Bloomer
Bloomer found themselves apart of the three-way 6-1 tie in the Cloverbelt West conference. McDonell Central is the #1 seed in Division 4 while Bloomer sits here as the #4 seed in Division 2. With just eight losses on the season alongside 34 wins, this could be one of the most dangerous #4 seeds in the tournament. This is Bloomer’s first state tournament appearance since 2019 where they fell to the runner up, #1 McFarland.
