The Chicago Bears did not start their 2023 campaign the way they had hoped. The Green Bay Packers finally traded away Aaron Rodgers and Bears fans were ecstatic. What they didn’t know was that Jordan Love would step in and continue the tradition of beating down the Bears.
Many Bears players talked about how excited they were the play the Packers at home for the very first game of 2023. However, after a 38-20 blowout, one Bears player decided to make a somewhat surprising admission after the game.
Chicago Bears Star Safety Jaquan Brisker Makes Stunning Admission After Loss To The Green Bay Packers
Bears players were feeling confident going up against the Aaron Rodgers-less Packers for the first time in a decade and a half. Jaquan Brisker admitted they may have been “too high” on themselves:
“I feel like we needed this,” Brisker told NBC Sports Chicago and Bear Report. “I feel like we might have been too high, and we just needed to get slapped in the face one good time. We needed this, especially in the first game, early.
The type of team we are, the type of players we have, what we built, we needed this—got to be more disciplined.
“We needed this. I felt like we were riding too high.”
The Bears’ defense was embarrassed by the Packers on Sunday. Love turned the offseason chest-thumping into dejected postgame whispers after throwing for nearly 250 yards and three touchdowns.
I am not sure if many fans believe that the team was “riding too high” prior to Week One. Maybe the team expected to walk into a win after Rodgers was traded. What they didn’t plan for was an entirely new Packers team continuing the tradition of beating down the Bears.
The Packers and Bears won’t play again until January 7th, 2024 in the regular season finale. We will see if the Bears defense is prepared by then.
