The Green Bay Packers will be in the free agent market for a running back and one of the hot names on the market this offseason is Derrick Henry, He has spent his first eight seasons in the NFL with the Tennessee Titans.

Henry played for Packers head coach Matt LaFleur in 2018 when he was the offensive coordinator for the Titans. That was the first time in his NFL career he rushed for over 1,000 yards when Henry rushed for 1,059 yards on 215 carries and 12 touchdowns, along with averaging 4.9 yards per carry that season.

In 2023 with the Tennessee Titans, Derrick Henry rushed for 1,167 yards on 280 carries and 12 touchdowns, along with 4.2 yards per carry. He also caught 17 passes for 214 yards receiving and zero touchdowns. Henry averaged 7,6 yards per reception and was targeted 28 times this past season.

Henry will have a ton of suitors and the Packers Super Bowl window is going to open next season. The question is, do they want to bring a veteran to reunite with LaFleur or do they want to go in a totally different direction? Well, Henry doesn’t care what kind of money he receives because his last contract was four years for $50 million with Tennessee.

Aaron Jones is currently the starting running back for Green Bay, but imagine the Packers offense with Jones and Henry as the 1-2 punch. That would make quarterback Jordan Love’s life very easy.

Derrick Henry To the Green Bay Packers Is a Nice Thought But the Reality is the Dallas Cowboys Will Probably Be the Favorites to Sign Him

In theory, it feels like a nice thought that Henry gets reunited with Matt LaFleur, but the Packers may have no chance to get him. The Dallas Cowboys are going to do everything to throw the bag at Derrick Henry. Dallas should have traded for him at the NFL Trade Deadline last season.

Owner Jerry Jones is going to want a big splash for that franchise this offseason and it is very possible they let running back Tony Pollard walk. Derrick Henry is a massive upgrade for Green Bay over AJ Dillon, who is also a free agent.

Aaron Jones is going to be 30 years old when the season rolls around and will have one year remaining on his contract. Derrick Henry is the best running back free agent on the market in quite some time and he has juice left in the tank to help other NFL teams even if it isn’t for the Green Bay Packers.
