Coming into Sunday Afternoon Game against The Oakland Athletics Brewers were trying to avoid getting Swept by the Worst team in all of Major League Baseball. Unfortunately The Brewers didn’t avoid getting Swept losing 8-6. Friday they lost 5-2. Saturday late afternoon Brewers lost in Extra innings 2-1 in 10 innings. Wasting a wonderful Pitching performance by Julio Teheran. Only 1 run allowed in 7 innings and 6 strikeouts.
However because the offense was held scoreless until bottom of 8th he got a No Decision. William Contreras tied the game with a 440 Foot Moonshot HR off the Scoreboard pitch Hitting for Rowdy Tellez making it 1-1. Game stayed tied until Oakland scored 1 in 10th inning with a lead off single scoring the ghost runner from 2nd which ended up being enough because Brewers went 1-2-3 in Bottom of 10.
Sunday Game against Oakland started off good for the Brewers with Christian Yelich hitting a opposite field HR in the bottom of 2nd inning. Then scored another run in bottom of 3rd with a Owen Miller RBI double making it 2-0. Then the wheels fell off again in the top of the 4th by Brewers. Leadoff single with a Error in Center Field by Joey Wiemer gave the A”s a leadoff runner at 2nd. Then Hit by pitch, 3 run HR, and another HR allowed by Freddy Peralta giving the A”s 4-2 lead.
After that Brewers were only able to scratch one more run in the bottom of 6th with a Blake Perkins RBI single narrowing the lead down to 4-3. Oakland A”s hit a HR to grab back a 2 run lead 5-3. Then added 3 more in the 9th to make it 8-3.
Brewers made a great comeback attempt in bottom of 9th scoring 3 runs and Bringing the winning run to the Plate but Blake Perkins grounded out and Brewers lost 8-6 and got swept by a team that hasn’t even swept anyone this season.
Oakland Athletics were (12-50) at the end of Monday night then beat Pittsburgh the next 2 days before coming to Milwaukee and Winning all 3 to have their 1st 5 game winning streak of the season. Brewers are now on a 4 game losing streak and fall 1 game behind the Pittsburgh Pirates in the National League Central Division at (34-32).
3 Reasons why The Brewers offense caused getting Swept this Weekend:
1. Lack of Offense: Brewers are having huge trouble Scoring Runs. Before Sunday game Brewers Only scored 3 runs in 19 innings against the worst pitching staff in Baseball.
2. Not aggressive enough: One thing that I’ve been noticing about the Brewers not just including this weekend but the throughout this season is taking tons of pitches right down the middle.
3. No timely Hitting Brewers in the 3 games were 6-28 with runners In scoring position. Leaving a boatload of runners on base including 11 left on Base on Sunday Afternoon and 3-12 with runners in scoring position.
Bullpen struggled on Sunday and Brewers got Swept by Oakland:
On Sunday Brewers Bullpen gave up 4 runs in the Last 3 Innings. Bryse Wilson gave up a Solo HR to Kevin Smith in top of 7th. Then Peter Strezlecki gave up 3 runs in the Top of 9th including a two run Double to former Brewer Esteury Ruiz. And Ryan Noda added one more with a RBI Single making it 8-3.
Peter Strezlecki has been pretty bad lately giving up 6 earned runs in his last 2 appearances ballooning his ERA up to over 5 on the season . Craig Counsell has been saying he is going to get big outs for us throughout the season. But maybe they got to at least take him out of a high leverage role for the time being.
