Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Carlos Santana – acquired at the MLB Trade deadline – reached a major career milestone on Friday night and is on the brink of reaching another. Santana reached 1,000 RBI with his two-homer night and, with the power surge, is now sitting at 299 career homers.

Brewers 1B Carlos Santana Reaches Milestone
Santana sat at 297 homers and 998 RBIs in his long career entering Friday’s game vs. Washington. Santana, though, belted two homers in the Brewers’ come-from-behind win to reach 1,000 RBI. He is now just one homer shy of yet another milestone. Santana is in his 15th year in the big leagues, and it is neat to see him accomplish the feats in Milwaukee (hopefully). He is also nearing 1,000 runs in his career – now at 988 – but he is unlikely to reach that milestone this season.

Santana hadn’t driven in a run in a week and hadn’t homered since Sept. 2, a 7-5 win over the Phillies. All that meant was he was due!
Overall, Santana hasn’t been great statistically for the Brewers, with only an 87 OPS (entering Friday) since coming to Milwaukee. However, he has been productive, smacking nine long balls and driving in 22 runs in just 39 games. The 37-year-old veteran isn’t just vital to the Brewers for his offensive contributions.
Santana has been one of the best defensive first basemen all year in the National League. At the time he was traded to Milwaukee, Santana led all National League first basemen with 6 defensive runs saved.
Matt Arnold said this week that he wants to improve the offense, but was reticent to do so at the expense of the team’s strength, its defense. Carlos Santana is an attempt to improve both. Leads MLB 1B with 6 defensive runs saved.

He is also widely considered a strong clubhouse guy. The on-field dancing the Brewers adopted was brought over by Santana, who did this in Pittsburgh.
With the Brewers being a young team this season, having a playoff-experienced guy in the clubhouse is nice to have. Santana has played in eight postseason series and 28 games in the postseason.
Before the regular season concludes, Santana is now reaching some lofty career milestones. While not many have occurred in Milwaukee, it is cool to see him reach 1,000 RBIs, and now it seems likely Santana will reach 300 homers in Brewtown, too.
