Luke Fickell and the new Wisconsin Badgers’ coaching staff have put together an impressive roster moving forward. Multiple four-star and three-star athletes have committed or transferred to the Badgers since Fickell arrived. However, with so many new arrivals, one current Badger felt as though he’d be better off moving on from Wisconsin. QB Chase Wolf has announced that he will be leaving the program.
QB Chase Wolf Announces He Will Leave Wisconsin

Former Wisconsin quarterback Chase Wolf announced in December after the team’s bowl game that he would return for a sixth season. That is no longer the case per The Athletic.
Wolf previously decided to come back and pursue a master’s degree in Real Estate & Urban Land Economics after conversations with Wisconsin coach Luke Fickell and offensive coordinator Phil Longo. According to a source with direct knowledge of the situation, the Badgers’ new coaching staff initially told Wolf that it intended to bring in two or three transfer quarterbacks in an attempt to add depth and upgrade the position but that Wolf would have an opportunity to compete for the starting job.
The source said Wolf was on board with that decision. But as he prepared to return, having already signed an apartment lease in Madison, he spoke to Longo again on Jan. 15, two days before players were due to report to campus. The source said Wolf was told that coaches already intended to go with SMU transfer Tanner Mordecai as Wisconsin’s starting quarterback. As a result, Wolf chose to move on from the program.
“The only thing he wanted to do was compete,” the source said. “That’s all he wanted to do. He didn’t want to be offered the job. He didn’t say, ‘I want to be the starter.’ He may have never been the starter. But they told him he’s not going to be able to compete because they’ve already named a starter.
Chase Wolf led the Badgers to a win in the Guaranted Rate Bowl in 2022 against Oklahoma State. He finished that game going 16/26 (61.5%), 116 passing yards, one touchdown, and one interception. The Badgers won that game 24-17. Wolf has been with the Badgers since 2019. Once a Badger, always a Badger, we wish you nothing but the best Chase!

I’m surprised he stuck around at all with all the transfers they brought in. I’m also surprised Fickell publicly lobbied for him to come back, didn’t seem like he’d have much playing time. This isn’t too unexpected, even though he did say he was returning.
Agree, the most he was going to be was a backup at this point. Good luck Chase!
