The Green Bay Packers have made a new signing this morning after agreeing to terms with veteran kicker Greg Joseph.

Joseph is a veteran kicker who has spent plenty of time in the NFL, most recently playing for the Minnesota Vikings this past season. Joseph turned 29-years-old not long ago and is coming off of a difficult season with the Vikings. Joseph will now join the Green Bay Packers in hopes of returning to his old form.

The Green Bay Packers announced a new singing this morning after inking a deal with free agent kicker Greg Joseph. The South African born kicker is one of the top available free agents at the position, and now joins the Packers on a one-year deal after playing the past three seasons with the Vikings.

Joseph joins the Packers with a career 82.6% completion rate on his kicks and adds 446 career points as well. Joseph has been a consistent kicker in the league, but is coming off of arguably his worst season as a starter. The accurate kicker should provide excellent depth and knowledge to the Green Bay Packers team.

Green Bay Intends to Make Joseph Challenge For Starting Kicker Heading Into Next Season

The Green Bay Packers have a method to their madness, and adding Joseph as depth behind one of the better kickers in the league next year is part of it. The Packers intend to bring in competition for Anders Carlson in hopes of bringing out the best in the kicker. Joseph was not just signed to compete, however, as he will also serve as one of the best backup kickers available.

The biggest knock on Carlson this past year was his extra-point accuracy, which ranked 33rd in the league this past season. Perhaps the addition on Joseph can help the development of Carlson as an all-around kicker.

Can Joseph Return to His Old Form With a Change of Scenery?

Joseph, during his first season with the Vikings, looked to be another kicker on the come up with a big leg and great accuracy. However, the past two seasons Joseph has continued to decline in production. While Joseph has struggled himself, he also has seen a reduction in his attempts the past two seasons as the Vikings offense also struggled.

Perhaps with a change of scenery in Green Bay, Joseph can return to nailing deep kicks for his team.
