Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets are talking. That much is known. What is not known is if Rodgers wants to play in 2023 at all, and if he does, if he even wants to play for the Jets. What if he wants to play in 2023, but only for the Green Bay Packers? If that is the case, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network says that the Packers would “welcome him back.”
The Green Bay Packers Are Leaving the Decision Up to Aaron Rodgers

In a segment record on The NFL Network, Rapoport said:
“Aaron Rodgers, I am told, has received permission to speak with the New York Jets. Those conversations have happened this week. It is due diligence for Aaron Rodgers and does not necessarily mean anything is imminent, although the clock is ticking. At some point, somehow, some way, Aaron Rodgers is going to have to come to a decision.
“But it is his decision. I think that has been one of the more important themes here. Regardless of what the Packers want, what the Jets want, what the Raiders want, it’s all about what ‘What does Aaron Rodgers want?’
“My understanding is that his wish is something that the Packers will listen to. If he has fruitful conversations with the Jets, if he likes it there, if he decides that’s where he wants to finish his career, the Packers will accommodate him and go forward and start the process of working on a trade.
“If he tells the Packers, ‘The Jets were nice, Robert Saleh is a very nice person, I like Joe Douglas, but I want to head back to the Packers,’ they will welcome him back. If it is retirement, which is still an option, then everyone will move on that way. This is all about what Aaron Rodgers wants.”
That is certainly a different narrative than what has been floating around social media over the last few days. Then again, do we really know everything that is being said or what is going on? One thing everyone can agree on is that the sooner Rodgers comes to a decision the better. With free agency starting next week, it is vital to have a plan in place, and part of that is knowing who will be under center for 2023.
