For quite some time there have been rumors that Milwaukee was looking to add another left-handed reliever to their bullpen. Today, that came to fruition as the Brewers announced that they have signed Justin Wilson to a one year deal that includes a 2024 club option.

This signing does come with a contingency. Wilson is not expected to be available for the Brewers until at least July. He underwent Tommy John surgery last June and hopefully will be able to return at some point during the 2023 season.
How has new Milwaukee Brewer Justin Wilson performed throughout his career?
Wilson, a 35 year old veteran, has played for six different organizations throughout his 11 year career with Milwaukee being the seventh. Over 467 career innings, all as a reliever, he has a 3.41 ERA, 120 ERA+, 1.285 WHIP, and a 27.5% strikeout rate. He does have experience closing games and has tallied 18 career saves.
On the mound, Wilson relies on a fastball that most recently averaged out at 95 MPH. He also throws a low 90’s cutter and a mid to low 80’s slider. His fastball tends to generate a lot of whiffs in which he puts a modestly high amount of spin on it.
It is unfortunate that Wilson will not be able to make an immediate impact in the Brewers bullpen, but he could be a good mid-season addition if he is able to return to game action this summer.
