Byron Young Scouting Report
Per NFL Draft Buzz, Young has the following strengths and weaknesses:
Strengths
- He’s ready for the physicality of the NFL; Young has a stout build, strong core, and powerful limbs to step in right away as a three-down player
- Played with lean and leverage against the run, tough for one man to move
- Rarely goes to the ground, shows good balance
- His motor is excellent, and he’s quick to locate the ball and make plays against the run
- Can make the impressive chest-to-chest bear hug tackle in the hole due to his ability to wreak havoc in the backfield
Weaknesses
- Young doesn’t have the skill set to bend around the edge if lined up as a DE; he’ll have to attack gaps as a pass rusher
- While Young was able to physically overpower opponents at the college, he will have to develop a wider repertoire of moves in the pros

Byron Young in Mock Drafts
According to NFL Mock Draft Database, Young is a projected fourth-round pick. Young is caught in the middle of positions. He is too small to be a DT but lacks the skill set for a true edge. He has an NFL body which will lead teams to take a chance on him but not draft him very highly. Young has not appeared in a mock draft since May according to NFL Mock Draft Database.
Would Byron Young Fit on the Packers?
I am not sure exactly what to do with Young as a prospect. On the one hand, I love that he has an NFL-ready body and can disrupt the backfield. On the other hand, I am not sure what position he would play for the Packers’ defense. There are other edge and DT prospects I like better as a fit for the Packers.
Check Out Another Prospect That Could Fit For the Packers
GM Brian Gutekunst could take a chance on Young as a versatile prospect but he usually prefers prospects who have a more defined role. The glut of edge prospects says to be that Gutekunst will look elsewhere.
