Blake Freeland: Offensive Tackle, BYU: NFL Draft Scouting Profile and Projected Draft Position
Blake Freeland BYU Stats
Freeland played four years at BYU and took snaps at both left tackle and right tackle. In his time, he has only given up a total of 2 sacks with two years of giving up no sacks.
Blake Freeland Scouting Report
Per NFL Draft Buzz, Freeland has the following strengths and weaknesses:
Strengths
- Outstanding on reach blocks, showing good initial quickness and flexibility to seal the backside. He’s a heady player who is quick to recognize and react to twists and stunts up front, and Freeland shows a good sense of timing on combo blocks
- In the run game, he shows good burst off the line of scrimmage, with the ability to win at the point of attack
- Plays with natural leverage and has the strength to anchor against the bull rush. He also packs a violent initial punch that can stand up pass rushers
Weaknesses
- Lacks instincts as a pass protector, oversetting and getting beat inside
- Can be beat off the edge coming out of his stance lunging to reach speedy wide rushers
- Sometimes Freeland simply gets too impatient to sit back in his set, reaching and lunging, and displays poor balance

Blake Freeland in Mock Drafts
According to NFL Mock Draft Database, Freeland is a projected 3rd round pick. However, in recent weeks he has started to climb up some mock drafts and boards. His size and strength make him a tantalizing prospect for teams looking for offensive line help. Below is a list of mock drafts and where they have Freeland being taken.
- AM NY – No. 27 overall: Bengals
- CBS Sports – No. 31 overall: Chiefs
Would Blake Freeland Fit on the Packers?
The Packers have a long history of developing elite offensive linemen. Because of that, I have a hard time saying that any lineman is a bad fit for the Packers. Freeland’s size, strength, and versatility would be interesting to have on the team. He would be able to handle any smaller player and push the line forward in the run.
Check Out Another Prospect That Could Fit For the Packers
This may seem odd but the presence of Caleb Jones might make GM Brian Gutekunst stay away from Freeland. Both have the same body profile and the Packers might not want to take on another project. However, you could also argue the opposite. Having two 6’8″ young tackles would be pretty imposing for the opposing defense.
