A former Badgers player advises the current team
Football teams become a family throughout the season. Sometimes they can be dysfunctional, but players and coaches will bond through the ebbs and flows of a fall. The 2022 Wisconsin Badgers team rallied around interim head coach Jim Leonhard when he stepped in for Paul Chryst, who was fired midseason. Many former Badgers and current players were upset when reports came out that Wisconsin wouldn’t keep Leonhard on as the head coach for next season.
It’s not because of the new head coach’s deficiencies. Luke Fickell has a history of success at his former school, Cincinnati. But many Badgers players wanted to keep the family they signed up to be a part of. Fickell will be shaking that up.
Former Badgers tight end Travis Beckum offered advice for players who were upset with the decision made last weekend. In a Tweet Wednesday, Beckum suggested in so many words that players shouldn’t rush to leave the Wisconsin program because they’re upset right now. They should wait until they can make a rational decision:
“Really hope these current players don’t make potential life changing decisions off of temporary feelings. Any path without obstacles probably doesn’t lead anywhere. Give this decision time to digest.”

Badgers players should listen
Beckum, a former Super Bowl winner, gave good advice to the current Badgers locker room. These players are understandably upset. They’re young. They chose to come to Wisconsin with a certain staff and scheme in place. However, they should at least wait to see what Fickell has to offer them before going into a situation that could be worse for their future.
Fickell’s experience should intrigue most players. He brought a non-Power five team to the College Football Playoffs. Fickell can undoubtedly help elevate this roster in the Big Ten.

They’ve had a couple of months to digest the changes. It was Chryst’s staff and recruiting, not Leohnarts.
