The Packers brought in a former Commanders QB this week
The Green Bay Packers brought several players to work out with the team this week. A name that drew attention for the name was wide receiver Ty Fryfogle out of Indiana. One player was signed of the five players that worked out, safety Innis Gaines, who will rejoin the Packers this week. Another player might have been brought in for strategic reasons in the same week the Packers play the Washington Commanders. The Packers brought in a former Commanders quarterback for a workout.
According to Rob Demovsky of ESPN, the Packers brought in a few wide receivers. That position would make sense to look at, given the numerous injuries the Packers have there in Week 7. The team also worked out quarterback Steven Montez Tuesday.

Here’s where it gets interesting. Montez is a little eye-opening because he played for the Commanders previously, and the Commanders play the Packers on Sunday. Montez was the backup for Taylor Heinicke in the playoffs for the 2020 season. Sure, Rodgers was dinged up last week, but it’s hard to believe the Packers are seriously considering Montez on the depth chart behind Jordan Love. However, with Carson Wentz being out with an injury, the Commanders named Heinicke their starter.
You can connect the dots from there why the Packers might want to take a look at a former Commanders quarterback this week. It’s a good strategy and one that’s needed as the Packers play a must-win game this week against the Commanders. The Packers’ schedule for the rest of the season will feature many playoff contenders. They have to take advantage of the lowly commanders in Week 7 to continue to fight for a playoff spot.
