The Packers announced Roster Moves Tuesday
The Green Bay Packers are looking to switch some pieces around following two straight losses. The Packers head into their Week 7 matchup against the Washington Commanders 3-3. That’s a surprising start to the season for the Packers. The team is currently trying to determine what schemes work best on offense and defense. In the meantime, the Packers added safety to the practice squad and waived two others.
According to a statement by the Packers, safety Innis Gaines has been added to the practice squad. He played football at TCU in college. Per the statement:
Gaines (6-1, 202), a first-year player out of TCU, originally signed with the Packers on Jan. 8, 2021. Last season, he was on the Packers’ practice squad and appeared in one game. Gaines spent the 2022 offseason and training camp with Green Bay before being waived/injured on Aug. 30. In four seasons (2016-19) at TCU, he played in 38 games, recording 104 tackles (69 solo), 15 tackles for a loss, four sacks, three interceptions, 13 passes defensed and three forced fumbles. Gaines will wear No. 38 for the Packers.
Interestingly enough, Gaines worked out with the Jets before the Packers and Jets Week 6 game.
The Packers released a CB and LB from the practice squad this week
The Packers released cornerback Benjie Franklin and linebacker Ray Wilborn this week. Franklin and Willborn had both been on the Packers’ first practice squad roster. But with more pressing injuries coming to the offense, they needed the cuts to help with other positions. The Packers signed offensive tackle Luke Tenuta off waivers Monday.
