The Green Bay Packers have had a historic off-season when it comes to the wide receiver position. After the trade of Davante Adams, and Marquez Valdes-Scantling signing with the Chiefs, the wide receiving corps has the most new faces of any position group on the team. This highlighted by the signing of Sammy Watkins and drafting of Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs. With all of that being said, Aaron Rodgers has made it clear what he thinks of the number one wide receiver for the 2022 season.
Aaron Rodgers’ Comments On The Wide Receivers:
“Excited about Randall [Cobb]. We’ve played a lot of football together. Excited about Sammy [Watkins]. Excited about Allen Lazard. He’s been our dirty-work guy for most of his career here, now he’s getting an opportunity to be a No. 1 receiver, so I’m not worried about him at all stepping into that role,” Rodgers said via The Athletic.
Aaron Rodgers has had nothing but praise for the Sammy Watkins signing so far. “100% on board with that signing” was one of his comments regarding the wide receiver. We all know the relationship that Rodgers has with Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb. However, this does beg the question, who are the top competitors in Aaron Rodgers’ eyes after those three?
Top Competitors for Veteran Packers Wide Receivers:
The obvious name of the Packers wide receivers is Christian Watson. Randall Cobb will play in the slot, and Sammy Watkins may not play all 17 games. Watson must be ready to contribute when his name is called.
Amari Rodgers is another name to watch. Coincidentally, Randall Cobb may also not play all 17 games. If Amari Rodgers takes that year two leap, he could play a vital role out of the slot.
Lastly, with his strong first impressions, Romeo Doubs has to be in consideration to make an impact this year. He has been catching everything that comes to him so far during OTAs and serving as a punt returner.
Those six might be your 2022 Packers Wide Receivers. One honorable mention to Juwann Winfree. He is looking like a GOOD receiver in minicamp. We will see if it translates to the field this year.
