Over the last five weeks of the season Aaron Rodgers has put himself in prime position to secure his 4th NFL MVP award.
However, one former Chicago Sports writer (who has a vote) will not be voting for him for his own reasons. Hub Arkush is a member of the Media Associated Press that votes on the NFL MVP. He made an interesting statement today that he will not be voting for Rodgers for the 2021 NFL MVP, but not because of his play on the field. Reasons Included in his statement were because he is a “bad guy” and a “jerk.”
Full Quote
“I don’t think you can be the biggest jerk in the league and punish your team, and your organization and your fan base the way he did and be the Most Valuable Player,” Arkush said. “Has he been the most valuable on the field? Yeah, you could make that argument, but I don’t think he is clearly that much more valuable than Johnathan Taylor or Cooper Kupp, or maybe even Tom Brady. So from where I sit, the rest of it is why he’s not gonna be my choice. Do I think he’s gonna win it? Probably.
A lot of voters don’t approach it the way I do, but others do, who I’ve spoken to. But one of the ways we get to keep being voters is we’re not allowed to say who we are voting for until after the award has been announced. I’m probably pushing the envelope by saying who I’m not voting for. But we’re not really supposed to reveal our votes.”
Why This Is an Absolute Joke
Per the NFL: “The National Football League Most Valuable Player Award (NFL MVP) is an award given by various entities to the American Football player who is considered the most valuable in the National Football League (NFL) during the regular season.” Key words; “DURING THE REGULAR SEASON.” Arukush’s stance on this matter is utterly ridiculous and should call into question whether or not Media Associated Press members should even have a say on this in general.
It is completely unjust to all NFL players to vote for these awards based on personal feelings and decisions, and not JUST their play on the field. Not to mention the numerous teammates who came to Aaron Rodgers’ defense while he was making the remarks he did prior to the season.
How exactly did Aaron Rodgers hurt his team Hub Arkush? His clear commitment to the team prior to the season starting? The fact that he has lead his team to yet another 13+ win season? What about the #1 seed and another first round bye in the playoffs? It couldn’t be that he has elevated the play of his teammates around him. How about him going out of his way to mention that the relationship with the front office has improved over the season? This statement by Arkush has clear personal bias all over it and his voting rights for the NFL MVP should be taken away.
Hub Arkush Apologized:
Arkush apologized for preemptively tipping his hand but he was otherwise defiant, chiding “a small army of self-styled social media and talk radio experts who have no clue what they’re talking about to challenge the quality of the voting process and would attempt to invalidate any vote or thought process that doesn’t agree with their own.” (Maybe Arkush and Rodgers have more in common than they realize.)

Get rid of this guy, clearly not qualified to vote if he doesn’t understand the criteria for the award.
Immediately strip the real and only jerk of his voting privileges! Strip the AP also going forward and teach these narcissistic arrogant Snapperheads they’re not deserving.
