With their only pick of the 4th round the Packers add Tackle Royce Newman of Ole Miss. The Packers have been pretty lucky in the mid-late rounds with picking Offensive Lineman. Both David Bakhtiari and Josh Sitton were drafted in the 4th round. Corey Linsley who was lost to free agency was drafted even later in the 5th round. So in keeping with tradition the hope is that Newman will be just as successful.

The Packers entered the day with 1 pick in the 4th round after trading away their first pick of the 4th round to the Titans for WR Amari Rodgers. With Bakhtiari nursing an ACL injury if the Packers are smart they won’t rush their All Pro Left Tackle back. The hope would be that if needed Newman could be a day one starter to protect whoever is behind center. Newman was the second Offensive Lineman the Packers selected so far during this draft. Offensive Line is arguably the second most important position behind Quarterback. A handful of Offensive Lineman to plug in to protect your QB is never a bad idea.
Measuring in at 6-5 and 305 pounds Newman started all 10 games at Right Tackle for the Rebels this past season. In 430 pass block attempts Newman only allowed 2 sacks. Newman was invited to the Senior Bowl where he performed well. Although it will take time to round out his game, with a little time he could be a great day 3 steal for the Packers.
A Young and talented Offensive Line
The Packers very well could be in great shape with talent and average age across the entire Offensive Line. With 2 picks in the first two rounds and Elgton Jenkins entering his 3rd year the Packers could continue to have one of the best Offensive Lines in the league. Jon Runyon Jr. who the Packers selected last year in the 6th round filled in well in limited time last season.
