After spending the first 11 seasons of his NBA career playing for the Portland Trail Blazers, Damian Lillard found himself on the opposite side of the fence as part of the Milwaukee Bucks. Unfortunately, though, the All-Star point guard fell to his former team on Wednesday night.
In the said showdown, the Bucks were defeated by the Blazers with a score of 119-116. Giannis Antetokounmpo led all scorers with 27 points, while Damian Lillard and Khris Middleton had 25 and 21 points, respectively.
The Trail Blazers got the victory with Anfernee Simon’s 24 points leading the way. Meanwhile, Deandre Ayton’s double-double of 20 points and 11 rebounds greatly helped in handing the Bucks their second loss in a row. This is also the second time Milwaukee lost after Doc Rivers started coaching the team.
In Rivers’ coaching debut with Milwaukee, the Bucks fell to the Denver Nuggets. It remains to be seen how Antetokounmpo’s resolve to win will be tested on the road in the coming days.
Milwaukee Bucks’ Damian Lillard Reacts To Playing His First Game in Portland Since Leaving in the Offseason
Even though Rivers’ coaching tenure isn’t off to a great start, Lillard still shared his thoughts about returning to Portland for the first time.
“It was a fun game. I think these types of games where there’s a lot of meaning, there’s a lot of emotion to it, it’s always a fun game. It’s always competitive. These games are never just a boring game or a blowout. It seems like there’s always a little bit more juice to them. That’s what tonight was. It was an entertaining game. There was excitement. Fans were into the game for a lot of reasons. That’s what the NBA is,” Lillard said, per Aaron J. Fentress.
Lillard went beyond the Bucks’ loss and focused more on the excitement and entertainment the game generated for fans. He added that fans were into the game for a lot of reasons, giving the contest a little more juice for them.
In the end, Lillard acknowledged that this is what the NBA is all about. Above all the business and competition is a game that brings people together for the love of the sport.
