The #4 Marquette Golden Eagles have a 19-5 record so far this season and they are 10-3 in Big East Conference play. Last season, they had one player on the All-Big-East First Team and two players on the All-Big-East Second Team. No players made the All-Big-East Honorable Mention team.
Tyler Kolek was the only player for the Marquette Golden Eagles last season who was on the first team. He was the conference player of the year. There is a possibility that Kolek will win that award for the second consecutive season depending on how things go for the rest of the way.
They still have to play #1 UCONN Huskies twice. In 24 games this season for the Marquette Golden Eagles, he is averaging 16.1 PPG, 5.0 RPG, 7.4 APG, 0.1 BPG, and 1.7 SPG. Those stats are worthy enough for him to be on the first-team All-Big-East for 2024.
Kam Jones and Oso Ighodaro were also on the All-Big-East second team a season ago for the Marquette Golden Eagles and one of them could be moved up to the first team this season. However, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see these two players named to one of the teams.
Jones is averaging 14.3 PPG, 2.6 RPG, 2.1 APG, and 1.1 SPG in 23 games played this season for Marquette. As for Ighodaro in 24 games, he is averaging 14.3 PPG, 7.5 RPG, 2.8 APG, 1.2 BPG, and 1.0 SPG for the Golden Eagles this season.
The Marquette Golden Eagles Could Have As Many As Four Players Named To All-Big-East Teams
Marquette could have a player who isn’t worth the first or second team but is worth the honorable mention spot. David Joplin could be the other player for head coach Shaka Smart to be named to one of the teams this season. Joplin is averaging 10.7 PPG, 3.4 RPG, 0.5 APG, 0.7 BPG, and 1.0 SPG, in 24 games so far this season for the Marquette Golden Eagles.
Time will tell when the month of March comes. The Golden Eagles could be one of the number one seeds in the 2024 NCAA Tournament, but for now, they are projected to be one of the number two seeds. Marquette has a lot of talent on its roster and there is not one guy that is dependent on, but Tyler Kolek is their best player. Kolek is possibly also the best player in the conference depending on who you ask.
