While the Packers’ playoff chances are slim, this does not mean there is nothing to play for. Individual players have a lot at stake. They may try to convince the current team they still have value or show other teams what they can bring to the field. Here are 3 Packers players with the most to prove for the rest of the season.
Adrian Amos
Adrian Amos is on top of the list of Packers players with the most to prove. This season has been disappointing for Amos. Before the season I wrote about how he was primed for a huge season and it just hasn’t panned out that way. Safety as a whole is a position that has been a weak spot for the Packers. Amos has uncharacteristically been out of position and a step late all season. At this point, it looks like the Packers may completely retool their safety position meaning that Amos will probably not be resigned. In the back half of the season, Amos is trying to show the Packers, and other teams, that he still has value.
Robert Tonyan
The good news is that Tonyan looks to be fully recovered from his torn ACL. He is also having a decent season as he leads the team in catches. However, Tonyan is still a Packers player with the most to prove. He is on an expiring deal and will be looking for a multi-year deal in the offseason. With how thin the Packers are at the tight end position, the Packers could look to resign him. He will need to show more consistency for the Packers to give him that deal. There are two elite tight ends in the draft that the Packers could target meaning the Packers could look in that direction rather than signing a veteran.
TJ Slaton: The Packers Player With The Most To Prove
Slaton is different than the other two players on this list. Slaton is a second-year player whom the Packers were hoping to take a big leap. The hope was that Slaton would be a run-stopper and possibly pick up some sacks as quarterbacks try to avoid the pressure from Preston Smith and Rashan Gary. He has simply not taken the leap. He is still very inconsistent and gets pushed around by offensive linemen often. The second half of the season is an opportunity for Slaton to prove he is part of the future.
While many players have things to prove, these 3 Packers players are the ones I believe have the most to prove. The Packers have some tough roster decisions coming up and how players perform in the back half of the season will help inform those decisions.
