The Milwaukee Brewers have currently played 13 spring training games, and one exhibition game against Team Great Britain, which is near the halfway point of their spring schedule. There are roster decisions that need to be made yet. Two positions that are up for grabs include third base and utility infield/outfield. So far, Brian Anderson, Mike Brosseau, and Owen Miller have been pleading their cases by putting up some insane spring training statistics.
Brewers players Brian Anderson, Mike Brosseau, and Owen Miller have been putting up insane spring training statistics.
Brian Anderson, who is expected to primarily play third base but could also see time in the outfield, has been tearing it up during his first spring with the Brewers. He has struggled to stay healthy over the past two seasons and this eventually led to the Marlins non-tendering him in November. From what he has shown in spring so far, he looks healthy and ready to be a major contributor.
Across seven games and 12 at-bats, Anderson has collected six hits and walked five times. This equates to a .500 batting average and .684 on base percentage. He’s gone deep twice so far that includes going to the opposite field. There are a lot of reasons to be optimistic about how he has performed.
Brian Anderson has reached base 11 times in 17 plate appearances this spring.

I asked Brian Anderson about his opposite field power being zapped the last couple years playing through injuries. He goes oppo in the 5th for another homer.

On the other hand, Mike Brosseau has also had a monster spring to date. He is the team leader in RBI’s (7) and has hit three home runs. All five of his hits so far this spring have gone for extra bases (2 doubles). It is important to note that he is doing this against right-handed pitchers. Last year he served primarily in a platoon role for the Brewers for he has a great track record of success against left-handed pitchers.
Mike Brosseau told us repeatedly last year that he can hit righties, too. Today, he showed it. pic.twitter.com/rRu99AQFsZ

Defensively, the Brewer have been inserting Brosseau at first base quite frequently. He primarily played third base last season, but also has experience at second base and the outfield. Being more comfortable at first base is only adding to his already impressive versatility.
Lastly there is Wisconsin native Owen Miller. The 26 year old has played all over the infield throughout his career, but the Brewers have been putting him in center field this spring. The defensive change has not impacted his ability at the plate as he currently is the team leader in hits.
Miller has collected eight hits so far this spring with four of them going for extra bases. He has walked one time during his 18 at-bats and perhaps more impressively he has only struck out once as well. Like Brosseau, he is competing for a utility player role on the opening day roster and with playing center field has expanded how versatile he is defensively.
It’s been a really good spring for Owen Miller, who’s starting in center again today.
Doubles home a run in the second and is now 8 for 17 with 4 doubles while striking out just once.
