Today was not an ordinary spring baseball game for the Milwaukee Brewers. Rather than playing a game within the Cactus League, Milwaukee got the opportunity to scrimmage Team Great Britain prior to them participating in the 2023 World Baseball Classic. During the exhibition game, two teenage prospects on the Brewers stood out. Those players were Jackson Chourio and Hendry Mendez.
Brewers teenage prospects Jackson Chourio and Hendry Mendez shined during an 8-2 win over Great Britain.
This exhibition game was Jackson Chourio’s debut with the Major League club. The organizations top ranked prospect, who is currently 18 years old, did not disappoint as Brewers media went crazy over his performance. He finished the day 2-3 at the plate with two doubles and a walk. Defensively, he played left field and threw a runner out at home.
Jackson Chourio’s day so far: Double down the line, hard groundout, threw out a runner at home plate from left field, line-drive double over the left fielder’s head. The man can play ball.

Another teenage prospect that shined was 19 year old Hendry Mendez. Mendez, a left-handed thrower and hitter who was signed out of the Dominican Republic, hit a home run in the sixth inning. The blast into right-center plated two runs.

While not a teenage prospect, it is also worth mentioning that catcher Matthew Wood also hit a home run. The Naperville, IL native was drafted in the fourth round of the 2022 MLB draft and is currently the Brewers 29th ranked prospect. He hits from the left side and his ability to hit the long ball really improved at Penn State last year in which he hit 12 home runs while also sustaining a .379 batting average and 1.147 OPS.
The Brewers will resume Cactus League play tomorrow as they play the San Francisco Giants.
