This past season, Green Bay played its first-ever game overseas, taking on the Giants in London. Today, the NFL announced the 2023 NFL International Series home teams and where they will be playing. This led many fans of teams, including the Packers, to ask whether their team would be playing an overseas game next year.
2023 NFL International Series: Packers Playing Abroad
Good news for Packers fans. You will not have to wake up early in order to watch a Packers game this season. The NFL announced the five teams that will host home games internationally next season. The Jacksonville Jaguars, Tennessee Titans, Buffalo Bills, Kansas City Chiefs, and New England Patriots will all host international games in England and Germany. The Packers’ 2023 schedule does not include away games against those teams. This means they will play all of their games in the states this season.
Great News For Green Bay
With respect to our international fans, it is a good thing that Green Bay is not playing overseas this year. One aspect that has not been talked about enough is how brutal the Packers’ schedule was this past season, not from an opponent’s standpoint but from a rest standpoint. The team was constantly at a rest disadvantage, and it started in London. The team will not have to deal with that kind of travel this year. In fact, they only have two games, the Raiders, and the Broncos, that have significant travel.
The 2023 International Series always brings out interesting conversations among fans. The NFL really wants to grow its international audience, and there are even talks of expanding the league to include European teams. Regardless of what you think of it, the international games are here to stay and Green Bay and other teams will have to figure out how to deal with them.
