The Wisconsin wrestling team took on the University of Northern Iowa Saturday night in the final dual meet of the season. It was also the final home meet for the Badgers, and the Seniors who will be leaving were celebrated before the meet began. The Badgers walked away with the 23-17 victory over a tough opponent in a back and forth meet.
Wisconsin Badgers Athletics Defend Home in Wrestling, Hockey
The Badgers took on the visiting Northern Iowa team and got the victory over the #16 ranked team on Saturday night. The departing seniors Dom Dentino, Trent Hillger, Tyler Dow, Taylor LaMont, Kevin Meicher, Garrett Model, and Drew Scharenbrock were all celebrated. Eric Barnett kicked things off with a quick pin for the Badgers at 125 pounds, giving them a 6-0 meet lead.

Next, departing senior Taylor LaMont defended the home turf with a 3-1 overtime decision win. The Badgers led 9-0 before the 141 and 149 pound matches. The Wisconsin wrestling team lost at 141 pounds by fall and 149 pounds by decision to tie the meet at nine. The Badgers came through again at 157 and 165 pounds when Garrett Model got the 5-2 decision win on his senior night. Dean Hamiti rolled through the competition at 165 pounds to bring home a 13-2 major decision.
The Badgers took a 16-9 meet lead heading into the final four weight classes. Northern Iowa fought for a 6-2 decision win at 174 pounds and brought the score to 16-12, Badgers. Drew Scharenbrock got the start at 184 pounds for his senior night, and unfortunately lost to Parker Keckeisen by tech fall, 22-6. Northern Iowa took the meet lead, 17-16, following their wins with 197 and 285 pounds left.
Braxton Amos stepped onto the mat for the Wisconsin wrestling team at 197 pounds. He worked his way to a 10-2 major decision win to put the Badgers back on top, 20-17. Trent Hillger extended his win streak to three with a 2-1 decision win to end the meet and give Wisconsin the 23-17 victory over Northern Iowa. It was a tough opponent and a tough dual season for the Badgers, but now Big Ten Championships are right around the corner for this promising Wisconsin wrestling team.
