When Aaron Rodgers joined the New York Jets in 2023, many doubted head coach Matt LaFleur’s capability to turn things around for the Green Bay Packers. Fast forward to today, and Green Bay is poised to qualify again for the playoffs, drawing praise from one-time Super Bowl champion Andrew Whitworth.

According to four-time Pro Bowl tackle, Green Bay Packers fans should continue trusting Matt LaFleur and his coaching staff since the team has a bright future.

“It wasn’t that long ago we were talking about ‘Who is Matt LaFleur when Aaron Rodgers leaves the Green Bay Packers?'” Whitworth said on Amazon Prime via Tyler Dunne on X (formerly known as Twitter). “Well, Luke Getsy’s been fired twice, Nathaniel Hackett’s failed twice and Aaron Rodgers has four wins in two years as a Jet. Matt LaFleur, at worst, has nine wins two seasons in a row. He’s won a playoff game. I think we know exactly who Matt LaFleur is, and that’s a hell of a football coach.”

Matt LaFleur has led the Green Bay Packers to a 26-21 record since the departures of Nathaniel Hackett and Luke Getsy, including going 18-11 since Aaron Rodgers left. Green Bay reached the Divisional Round last season after going 9-8 and is now 9-4 this season.

Matt LaFleur’s blunt reaction to Green Bay Packers’ loss vs. Detroit Lions

The Green Bay Packers suffered a 34-31 loss to the Detroit Lions on Thursday night, prompting an eye-opening take from head coach Matt LaFleur. Per ESPN’s Rob Demovsky, LaFleur told the team they’d “have to earn the right to potentially come back here” and added that he still believes they’re a “good football team.”

Green Bay is in a highly competitive NFC North, but they’re still in the playoff mix since they are the sixth seed in the NFC, which is good for a second Wild Card spot.

They have four regular season matches left against the Seattle Seahawks, New Orleans Saints, Minnesota Vikings, and Chicago Bears.
