The Wisconsin volleyball team has lost their second straight game after an epic rally fell just short against the #16 Purdue Boilermakers team.
Wisconsin entered the game as the third-ranked volleyball school in the country, but unfortunately, that ranking may not remain. Wisconsin volleyball was able to take the game to a fifth set after rallying against the Boilermakers. However, the rally was not enough as Purdue was able to hang-on for the 3-2 victory over the Badgers.
Wisconsin Volleyball Falls Short Against Tough Purdue Boilermakers Squad
Wisconsin volleyball got off to a rough start, falling down 6-0 in the first set before rallying to eventually take the frame, 25-22. The Badgers carried their momentum from the last set into the next as they got off to a 4-0 run to begin the frame. The Boilermakers clawed their way back and tied the set at 15 before closing it out, 25-19, to take the frame.
Going into the third frame, the Badgers and Boilermakers were knotted up at 1-1 for the game score. The third set was all Purdue as Wisconsin volleyball allowed two 3-0 runs that allowed the Boilermakers to pull away. Purdue took the third set, 25-20, to take a commanding 2-1 lead over the Badgers as Wisconsin volleyball prepared for the fourth frame.
The fourth frame was all Wisconsin volleyball as the Badgers recorded a 9-0 run before closing out the set, 25-12, to force a fifth and final set. Purdue was able to get out to a strong 9-5 lead before Wisconsin dug their way back into the game and tied the score at 12. Unfortunately for the Badgers, Purdue was the stronger team as they finished the set, 16-14, to take the match.
A Look Ahead: Wisconsin Badgers Volleyball Faces Indiana Hoosiers
Wisconsin has now lost two matches in a row, which has been quite the downturn for what was once arguably the top team in the country. Despite the losses, the team has still played well and certain individuals in particular have had their best performances.
In the loss against Purdue, Senior outside hitter Sarah Franklin recorded a career-high 28 kills as well as two blocks and two aces. Sophomore Carter Booth also had a great game, recording 11 kills and five blocks against the Boilermakers.
Wisconsin volleyball will now visit the Indiana Hoosiers on November 19th in hopes of breaking their losing streak. Wisconsin hosted the Hoosiers earlier in the season and walked away with a 3-0 victory.
