The transfer portal has been a busy place over the past week. The number of players entering the transfer portal has skyrocketed as players look for different opportunities. Wisconsin has not been immune to the wave of players looking to change teams. Wisconsin safety Titus Toler announced that he would be entering the transfer portal.

Wisconsin Safety Titus Toler Enters The Transfer Portal
The roster takes another short-term hit. Former 4-star recruit Titus Toler has decided to enter the transfer portal. He still has three years of eligibility and is looking to maximize his potential elsewhere. We have seen many players move on or decommit after the hiring of Luke Fickell. This is to be expected as a coaching change often comes with lots of player movement. However, it is getting concerning how many players are moving on to other programs. Fickell has his work cut out for him in the short term.
A New Landscape
While the gut reaction is to panic, we have to look at the greater landscape. Every team is dealing with players leaving for the transfer portal. It used to be that entering the transfer portal meant you lost a year. Now, a player can play the very next season. The NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness) landscape has also seen players chase financial opportunities through the transfer portal. Some of this is the coaching change but some of this is the new college football landscape that all coaches are going to have to navigate.
Luke Fickell has his work cut out for him. Wisconsin safety Titus Toler entering the transfer portal is just one of many to test the waters elsewhere. There is plenty of opportunity to gain new players so it isn’t time to panic yet. However, this is something to watch over the rest of the winter and into the spring.
