The Wisconsin Badgers have had a nice turnaround to their football season. After a couple of bad early season losses, the season looked to be lost. The Badgers then fired Paul Chryst and named Jim Leonhard as the interim head coach. Any time this happens to a team, it is hard to determine whether it will help salvage the season. In this case, it des. Wisconsin players have started to voice strong support for Jim Leonhard.
Wisconsin Players Voice Strong Support For Jim Leonhard
Chimere Dike on Jim Leonhard:
"I think everyone in this locker room wants him to be our guy and he is our guy so the better we can perform, the better chance for him to get that job and I’d be shocked if he didn’t honestly."#Badgers— Raul Vazquez (@RaulV45) November 5, 2022
After the victory over Maryland, wide receiver Chimere Dike had some words for the people making the hiring decisions. “I think everyone in the locker room wants him to be our guy,” Dike said. He went on to say that the players realize they have to win for this guy so he can get the job. Dike was not the only player to voice support.
That’s his job!! We want him https://t.co/FzpskZFxi1
— Hunter Wohler (@HunterWohler) November 6, 2022
Defensive back Hunter Wohler retweeted the Dike quote and stated what he thought about the situation. “That’s his job!! We want him.” There is no confusion about what Wohler wants to happen after the season. He wants to see Jim Leonhard as the permanent coach. The reaction after the game in the locker room shows how much this team loves playing for Leonhard.
Wisconsin Is Not Out Of The Big Ten Race
With how bad the season started, it is crazy to think the Badgers could win the Big Ten. However, it is a real possibility. With Illinois losing on Saturday, the Badgers are now one game back in the Big Ten West. If the Badgers can win out and Illinois and Iowa falter down the stretch, they could find themselves in the Big Ten Championship Game. At that point, anything can happen. If the Badgers do win the Big Ten West, it would be all thanks to the coaching job of Jim Leonhard.
The players want him. He is having success on the field. He even scored his first recruit. If Leonard keeps on this trajectory, I do not see how the Badgers do not give him the job.
